Plan an Entertaining Wedding Cocktail Hour

Let the party begin! The cocktail hour entertains your guest while you and your new spouse are off getting all the important “we just got married shots”. The cocktail hour allows your guests to mingle, sip on some signature cocktails, enjoy some yummy hors d’oeuvres, and play some games. These ideas can make your cocktail hour a blast for your guests.

Display of Cocktails - be creative and make a display out of your cocktails.

Printed Napkins - print custom beverage napkins with fun relationship facts about you and your spouse.

Self-Serve Water or Juice - have a fancy dispenser for fruit-infused water or juice allowing guests who don’t prefer cocktails or are too young for cocktails something to enjoy. This also will keep the bar open for the cocktail line.

Special Seating - have some seating in your cocktail area, maybe lounging furniture for guests to relax before the reception.

Live Music - having live background acoustic music playing as the guest mingle can set the feeling for the rest of the reception.

Take it Outdoors - take the refreshments outdoors and enjoy some yard games like Giant Jenga or Cornhole.

Snow Cones - who doesn’t like snow cones? Have a snow cone station for guest to create their snow cone.

Beer Flights - are you a big fan of craft beers? Allow your guests to sample flights of your favorite craft beers.

Mini Popsicles - if you are in a warm climate or having an outdoor summer wedding, serve a variety of mini fruit popsicles to your guests to help keep them cool.

Fire Pit - create a s’more bar for your guests to roast marshmallows and create their s’mores.

Bite-Size Treats - allow your guests to have variety with a large charcuterie board with fruits, veggies, cheese, and meats. Be creative with how it is displayed charcuterie boards can be so colorful and unique.

Photo Ops - let the guest have access to your photo booth during the cocktail hour or just have a fun photo area with props set up in a corner. Give your guests a hashtag to tag their photos on social media.

Don’t make your cocktail hour too long that your guests get restless. Keep it between 45 minutes to no more than 90 minutes. This will allow your guests to interact with each other before starting the reception.
